Surf House Ghana
The home of Surf Ghana in Busua.
Surf House is our community hub on Ghana’s western coast — a place dedicated to surfing, learning, connection and opportunity. Home to the Sankofa Surf Club, the space brings together young surfers, coaches, visiting mentors, travellers and the wider Busua community.

A home built around surfing.
Surf House was created to give the surf community in Busua access to something permanent: a place to train, meet, learn, work and develop new opportunities around the ocean. The space connects Surf Ghana’s community programs with responsible tourism, skills development and cultural exchange.
Every activity contributes to the same ambition: supporting the next generation of Ghanaian surfers and building a stronger local surf ecosystem.
From a surf community to a permanent home.
Surf Ghana has worked with surfers and young people in Busua for years. As the community grew, we saw the need for permanent infrastructure where programs could continue beyond individual surf sessions and events. Surf House was developed as a place where surfing, education, community and economic opportunity could exist together. The project was completed through the transformation of an existing beachfront structure and opened a new chapter for Surf Ghana in Busua. Surf House officially opened in 2023.

Designed for the Community
Surf House was developed with DeRoché Strohmayer through the adaptive reuse of an existing building in Busua. The architecture responds directly to its environment, using passive cooling, cross-ventilation, locally sourced materials and a reduced-carbon concrete incorporating laterite. The project also preserved existing trees and created shaded communal areas connected to the beach. In 2023, the project received the , recognizing its approach to sustainable construction, community impact and youth empowerment.
